🧾 "Setup and transport" is the supplier's base price for coming to you. It is part of the total from the very first search result, not a fee added at checkout.
Open the price breakdown on any listing or at checkout and you will see two kinds of lines: a per-person price for the food, and a fixed line called "Setup and transport". On a smaller order the fixed line can be a large share of the total, which makes it look like an extra. It is not. It is how mobile catering is priced, and this article explains what it buys you.
What the base price pays for
Getting to you. Travel to your address, calculated from your postcode and the distance from the supplier's base. Some suppliers offer free delivery within their local area.
Setup and pack-down. Arriving early, setting up the truck, trailer or stall, and clearing away afterwards.
Staff for the service. The people cooking and serving during the agreed serving time are always included.
Equipment. The kitchen, serving equipment and, where the supplier is self-sufficient, their own power and water.
Why it looks large on a small order
The base price is the same whether you have 20 guests or 100. Bringing a fully equipped kitchen and a team to your address costs the supplier roughly the same either way. So on a small order it is a big share of the total, and on a large order it almost disappears.
That is why the price per person is the number to compare. In search results each supplier shows both the total and the price per person for your guest count, so you can see what the food actually costs once everything is included.
Minimum spend and the small order fee
Each supplier sets a minimum spend, the smallest order that makes it worth their while to come out. If your order is below it, a small order fee is added so the minimum is met. You always see clearly when this has happened and how much it is. Adding a few more covers or an add-on often removes the fee entirely.

Booking more than one truck
Each truck or trailer has its own base price, because each one travels, sets up and staffs separately. Book them as separate orders, one per supplier. If you are catering for a very large event and want help putting a line-up together, write to us before you book.
